Pippi Longstocking was written by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. This is a story of a spirited young girl and her entertaining escapades. Pippi has a red hair and a freckled face. She is unconventional and extraordinary strong, she can even lift a horse with one hand. Also she is very playful and changeable. She likes to make fun of adults, particularly if they are condescending and pompous. Pippi gets angry only in extreme circumstances. This character is similar to Peter Pan, she wants to be a child forever. Her best friends are monkey and a horse and her neighbours Annika and Tommy.
Pippi is a nine year old little girl who lives alone in a small village in Sweden. When she was a baby, her mother died. Her father, who is a sea captain, raised Pippi. He would take Pippi with him on his journeys around the world. During one journey he died during a storm. Nobody saw the body. Pippi is certain that her father will come back home so she return to Sweden. With her she takes a bag of gold coins and a monkey Mr. Nilsson.
In Sweden Pippi’s neighbors are Tommy and Annika, sister and brother, who live with their parents. They are well behaved children but they desire to have a new friend. When they saw Pippi for the first time, they were fascinated by her appearance and her imaginative stories. Very soon they all become friends.
The next day, all of them decided to go on an adventure to find some exciting things. Pippi was called a Thing Finder. Around the neighborhood they were searching for valuable objects. During they adventure they saw a neighborhood bully who was picking on a boy. Pippi is determent to save the boy. The bully tries to push Pippi but she picks him up with her strength and hangs him on a tree. After that, Pippi and her friend go back to garden.
The whole neighborhood is concerned that Pippi is living all alone. Police came and tried to take her to children’s home. Pippi does not understand what is going on. She starts asking millions of questions. Her questions annoy the police. She does not want to go with them so she climbs up the roof. The police tried to catch her but instead Pippi picks up each of the policemen and walks them out of her street. They are in shock.
