Robinson Crusoe is a novel written by Daniel Dafoe. Main protagonist Robinson Crusoe is one of the most famous characters in literature. The story is about Crusoe’s survival after the shipwreck. Daniel Dafoe based his story on true events; Alexander Selkirk was a sailor who lived on the Pacific island for years.

The story opens with young Robinson Crusoe, an Englishman, whose father wants him to study law but he dreams to go to sea. His father is not happy with his decision and he tries to explain Crusoe that is better to search a secure and simple life. Robinson wants to obey his father, but his heart belongs to adventure and sea. He and his friend embark on a ship for London. But a storm causes the near death of Robinson and his friend. His friend gets scared and discouraged from sea travel. Robinson continues his journey alone. The first trip was successful but the second one was not. Moorish pirate took over the ship and poor Crusoe is enslaved and taken to North Africa. He manages to free himself and sails down the African coast. On his way, he meets a Portuguese captain who picks him up. The captain takes Robinson to Brazil. There, Robinson becomes a very successful plantation owner. Couple of years later, Robinson joins a slave – gathering expedition to West Africa. Unfortunately, he is shipwrecked and Robinson is the only one who survived. He found himself on an isolated island. He starts looking for food and shelter. He goes back to ship’s wreck to save powder, guns, food and other stuff. On the island he finds a goat and decides to build himself a shelter. He builds and elevates a cross that he engraves with his arrival date, September 1, 1659. From that day, he would make a notch every single day so he can’t lose track of time. More than that, he keeps a diary of his activities, like his effort to make candles or something similar that he can use. One year later he falls asleep. He starts hallucinating an angel who warns Robinson to repent. He believes that God has come to free him from his sins. After that, Robinson takes a walk and he finds out that he is on an island. He discovers a valley and builds a retreat. Now, Crusoe is feeling more positive about his situation, he even calls himself a ˝king˝. He takes a goat as his pet, he trains a parrot to be his pet and starts developing skills like making bread and pottery. He even makes a large canoe out of cedar tree. He also builds a small boat. For several years he lived in peace.
