Carlo Collodi is a writer of this timeless children’s novel Pinocchio. It is a classic story but in a way a very different one. Collodi lays out a story of a puppet made out of wood Pinocchio which came to life. But Pinocchio is acting selfish, obnoxious and rude. This kind of behavior brings a horrible consequence to a puppet like he is starved, robbers attack him, he is transformed into a donkey and so on. With each of this consequence, his shame and penance for his rude behavior are more real. Pinocchio has a strong desire for fun and is constantly rejecting responsibility. The imperative of the novel is to be good and to study. Once Pinocchio has devoted himself to these goods, as a reward he transforms into a real boy.
A carpenter finds a piece of wood that can talk and gives it to his neighbor Geppetto. He carves the wood into a doll and names it Pinocchio. The puppet was not behaving good, he was rude. Geppetto threatened Pinocchio in public. He grabbed Pinocchio’s nose which was becoming bigger and bigger. So Geppetto went to jail.
While Pinocchio was at home he saw a cricket who could talk. Cricket said to Pinocchio that his behavior towards Geppetto was shameful. But Pinocchio ignored the cricket and he tossed the cricket away. Pinocchio was hungry. He became aware that cricket was right after all. He noticed an egg and tried to eat it. But a chicken break out of egg and started to run. He decided to go to town and find some food. But all he could find was water and he got wet.
He went home to dry himself so he lit a fire. But the fire caught his wooden leg. His legs were ashes. The next day, Geppetto came home. The door was closed so he knocked. Pinocchio did not have legs so he could not open it. Geppetto somehow came into house. They made a deal. If Pinocchio starts behaving well, Geppetto will make him new legs. Pinocchio realized that his father was a good person, he even sent him to school. One day he was going to school and he started to think how he can help Geppetto financially. He decided to sell a school book. With that money he went to a puppet carnival. When puppets saw that Pinocchio is also a puppet, they were happy. The puppets had an evil master called Mangiafuoco. He caught Pinocchio and wanted to toss him in the fire. He needed fire to make something for dinner. Pinocchio began to cry. But Mangiafuoco was not a bad guy after all. He got pity over Pinocchio so he gave him money. Pinocchio wanted to give the money to Geppetto. On his way, Pinocchio met a fox and a cat. They tricked him and told him that you can bury your money on a mystic land, more money will grow. All three of them went to a bar. They ate all night. Pinocchio fell asleep and the fox and the cat ran away leaving Pinocchio with the bill. The cricket told Pinocchio to be more careful and never to trust anyone who tells him that it is easy to become rich in one day. Pinocchio once again ignored his words.
